IHG PointBreaks: Hotel Stays for 5,000 Points Per Night

IHG_Room

IHG Rewards this week released its latest list of PointBreaks hotels that are available for booking for just 5,000 points per night.

Offer Details

Beginning on April 25, IHG Rewards members can book award nights for 5,000 points at 141 participating hotels, for stays through July 31, 2016.

The new list includes 93 hotels in the U.S., 18 in the rest of the Americas, 21 in Europe, six in Asia, and three in Oceania, Africa, and the Middle East.

Deal or No Deal

With normal IHG Rewards award prices beginning at 10,000 points per night, the PointBreaks rates represent a discount of at least 50 percent. The value proposition is unarguably a compelling one.

As far as sheer numbers go, the current list features around 30 fewer participating properties than the previous quarter’s. And that was a significant downgrade from the roster of several quarters ago, which featured 210 hotels, including 142 in the U.S. alone. Unlike most past PointBreaks lists, there are no InterContinentals on the new one.

Numbers aside, the question with PointBreaks, always, is whether any of the discounted hotels work for you.

Bottom line: Whether it’s long or short, the PointBreaks list is always worth perusing. There just might be a hotel that fits into your existing travel plans, or that could be the centerpiece of an opportunistic trip.

As always, room nights available at the PointBreaks rate are limited, so act quickly to lock in a deal that works for you.

  1. I love PointBreaks, to the extent that I’ve begun planning vacations around them. In the last couple of years I’ve enjoyed PB stays in Phoenix, Panama (the nation), Baton Rouge and Liverpool, England. (I think a stay in Shanghai several years ago was also PB, but I don’t remember for sure.)

After you’ve accumulated enough frequent-flyer miles to make flying free, the next step is to do what you can to save money while you are at your destination…and that’s what PointBreaks allow you to do.

Due to other time conflicts this summer, I will not be able to utilize any of the PB bargains this time…but if I could, the Finger Lakes property would be high on the list, along with one or more of the properties in England.
