Flash Sale: Delta Award Tickets to Asia

As is becoming an almost monthly occurrence, Delta has announced a 48-hour flash sale on award travel. Last month’s sale was for flights within the U.S.; this time, it’s for flights to Asia.

Offer Details

Through December 14 (11:59 p.m. EST), SkyMiles members can book award travel between the U.S. and select destinations in Asia for as few as 49,000 miles roundtrip. Award travel at the discounted rates must be completed between January 10 and March 3, 2017.

Award travel from the U.S. to China is blacked out between February 3 and February 18, 2017, and from China to the U.S. between January 10 and January 29, 2017.

Deal or No Deal

Award travel to Asia is normally priced from 70,000 to 80,000 miles roundtrip, depending on the route. So 49,000 miles would represent a discount of 30 to 39 percent. That’s substantial.

As is always the case with flash sales, the snooze-you-lose booking imperative is a negative, especially for overseas travel, which naturally requires more advance planning than a domestic trip. The travel window, at less than two months, is a negative as well, as are the blackouts on U.S.-China travel.

Still, worth a look if you have Delta miles in hand and plan (or could plan) a trip in the coming months.
